The owner of a gay bar in Atlanta, Georgia has found himself in hot water this week after a series of racist Facebook posts he wrote in the past surfaced.
Raw Story reported that Palmer Marsh, the owner of Atlanta’s Burkhart’s Pub, wrote the posts on Facebook starting in 2015.
“Obviously Vladimir Putin thinks that Barack Obama is a stupid n**ger,” he wrote in one post. “He might just be right.”
“If the South had won, we would be a hell of a lot better off,” Marsh wrote in another post, referring to the Civil War.
Buckhart’s general manager Don Hunnewell spoke out after the posts were found to say that “it took everything I had to soldier on and not terminate my employment agreement.” He went on to say that Marsh and his wife and business partner Mary are retired and have “no active participation in the operations” of the pub.
This comes a year after non-profit director Pamela Taylor was fired for calling Michelle Obama an “ape in heels” on Facebook.
“It will be so refreshing to have a classy beautiful dignified First Lady back in the White House. I’m tired of seeing an Ape in heels (sic),” Taylor wrote in November of 2016, as the Obamas prepared to leave the White House.
Clay Mayor Beverly Whaling ended up resigning after she was slammed for commenting on the post, writing that it “just made my day.” She later tried to defend herself by saying she was simply excited to see “change in the White House.”
“My comment was not intended to be racist at all,’ Whaling said in a statement to The Washington Post. “I was referring to my day being made for a change in the White House! I am truly sorry for any hard feeling this may have caused! Those who know me know that I’m not in any way racist! Again, I would like to apologize for this getting out of hand!”
